In the Beginning....
The World Martial Arts Association was formed in 1981 under the leadership of Sang Kyu Shim to support the independent school and individual student. The association grew primarily through his energy and his reputation for very high standards and dedication to traditional martial art. When he passed suddenly in a pedestrian-auto accident in 1992 the organization and martial arts world were stunned. After a year's time, it fell to GM Shim's long-time student and successor at United Tae Kwon Do, Edward Cahill, to pick up the ball and maintain the WMAA - which he has done to date.
Edward Cahill, 8th Dan, is certified through the World Ki Do Association and the Korean Ki do Association, as well as the WMAA. As is the way of things, GM Cahill felt it necessary to remove himself from the day-to-day responsibilities of operating a personal school so that the Senior Masters and Black Belts at United Tae Kwon Do could have the opportunity to grow from being 'on their own.' It was always a goal of GM Shim that his Masters have that opportunity and it is good to know that several are fulfilling his desire.
GM Cahill has a personal blog/web page at martialartforeternity.com. for weekly comments and reference materials.
The Present ...
GM Cahill has devoted his time to maintaining the WMAA, teaching 'off location', and preparing educational material that was launched in 2014 through this Website.
